iPhone Firmware 2.2.1 - no biggie
This update, so minor that for the first week it hasn’t been featured on Apple.com’s “Get the latest update” page, was released last week to a general
chorus of disappointment (not even counting the tantrums.) It enhances Safari stability, fixes a minor bug where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in Camera Roll (or iTouch’s Saved Photos), and for iTouch, fixes an issue that caused some Apple Lossless audio files to skip during playback.
No cut-and-paste, no voice dialing, and in particular not the rumored push notifications. (MacRumors Update: “This is fake.” No new rumors have surfaced in its place.) And - sorry - still no MMS (there’s always Flutter.)
No reports of big installation problems seem to have bubbled up, either. Just make sure you have iTunes 8 (here’s a troubleshooting page, just in case) and connect the iPhone; if Update is not showing on the device’s Summary tab, then Check for Updates should show.
Here’s a question: is the parallel release of a new SDK 2.2.1 the real point of this round of announcements?
